Our work on Lombok

Together with our partner organisation, Yayasan Peduli Hewan Lombok,
we are working directly on the ground for sustainable animal welfare.
From neutering and emergency medical care to the development of our Sanctuary.
Here's what our work looks like.

Here's what our work looks like.

Spay & Neuter – CNVR: Catch – Neuter – Vaccine – Release

Every year, stray dogs are born in Kuta and the surrounding areas. An ongoing neutering programme prevents unwanted litters whilst also improving the health of the dogs already living on the streets.

We carry out sterilisation campaigns in the areas where the dogs live. Many street dogs are very fearful of people, so when necessary, our team uses humane darting methods to safely sedate them before handling.
How it works:

Dogs are safely sedated when needed
They are taken a short distance to our mobile surgical setup
Our veterinary team sterilises and vaccinates them
Once recovered, they are returned to the area where they were found

This allows dogs to stay in their familiar territory, while helping reduce the number of unwanted puppies born on the streets.
In this way, the population is reduced long-term and in accordance with animal welfare principles, and vaccinations protect both dogs and humans from diseases such as rabies. Neutering is the cornerstone of sustainable animal welfare.

Your support helps to fund neutering, vaccinations and aftercare.

Emergency Medical Care

Every day, we receive reports of dogs who are injured, sick or in need of urgent medical care on the streets.

Many street dogs are too fearful to be handled, so we use sedation when necessary to safely assess and treat their injuries.
What we do:

We respond to reports of injured or sick dogs
Provide treatment on-site whenever possible
Transport serious cases to our Sanctuary
Carry out surgery, wound care and ongoing treatment
Return dogs to their original area once they have recovered

We only keep dogs at the Sanctuary if they cannot safely return to their original location, for example because of a severe disability or because it is no longer safe to return them.
This helps us respond quickly and treat as many dogs as we can with the resources available to us.

Your support helps fund emergency treatment, medication and ongoing care.

Sanctuary in South Lombok

We release most of the dogs we treat back into their local area. However, some are too vulnerable to live safely on their own. For them, our sanctuary provides a permanent and safe home.

Our current location is basic and offers only limited space. It provides the dogs with a safe place, but we are working to create better conditions for dogs with more complex needs. By purchasing our own property, we are building a larger, better-equipped home for over 70 dogs – featuring a shelter and quarantine area, a clinic with a rehabilitation area, a specially adapted area for dogs with disabilities and those in wheelchairs, and a kitchen to care for the dogs. This will create more space for treatment, recovery and long-term care.
What we provide:

A safe place for dogs who cannot return to the streets
Daily feeding, monitoring and support
A secure environment for dogs needing extra care
A variety of activities for our dogs, including walks and trips to the beach

More space and better facilities help us to care for dogs that need to stay with us long-term.

Help us build a better home for the dogs in our care.

Weder Haustier, noch Wildtier

They are neither a pet nor a wild animal. No human being decides what they eat, how they reproduce or what they look like, and yet they live in close proximity to humans, make use of human environments and have adapted over thousands of years to living alongside us. In biology, this is known as commensalism:Animals that benefit from humans without being dependent on them. Social, adaptable, independent.
That's exactly what the dogs on Lombok are like.

Animal Welfare Work on the Ground in Lombok

Spay & neuter program

CNVR: Catch - Neuter - Vaccine - Release
By carrying out an ongoing spay & neuter program, we are doing our part to reduce animal suffering on Lombok sustainably.

Sanctuary Lombok

The Sanctuary will finally become a safe place for the dogs. It combines a shelter area, a clinic, a rehabilitation area and an area for disabled dogs and those in wheelchairs.

Mobile Vet Team

Every day, reports are received of injured dogs. The mobile veterinary team treats and monitors dogs on the streets that do not require intensive medical care.

Handicap & Wheelchair dogs

Vulnerable dogs, in particular, need a safe place and professional care. Experienced animal carers look after our disabled dogs round the clock.

Street Feeding

Mit Hilfe von Volunteers wird die Verpflegung von Straßenhunden gesichert, die sie benötigen. Zusätzlich werden diese medizinisch versorgt und die Entwicklung der Hundepopulation beobacht.

Education

Working with the children and people in the remote villages is very close to our hearts; our team regularly uses the neutering program as an opportunity to educate the local communities about animal welfare.
